Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa
Another greatest spiritual giant was Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa(1836-1886). He was a symbol of truth, universality, love and purity. As a child, he was naturally attuned toward leading a spiritual life. As a grew older, his urge to be one with God only intensified in magnitude. He was a temple priest for some time. Later on he immersed himself in intense meditation to quench his thirst for God.He saw unity in all beings not just in theory but literally he followed it in every day life.Ramakrishna's love for humanity was unlimited. He often said human beings were the highest manifestations of God. Service to God in humankind is one of the foremost ideals of the disciples of Sri Ramakrishna mission. His Early Life - Sri Ramakrishna was born as Gadadhar Chatterjee in 1836 at Kamarpukur which was located near calcutta. His childhood was spent in poverty. But his parents were devout worshippers of their family deity Lord Raghuvir. As a child, he never went to school as he despised it.Gadadhar lost his father a the age of seven. He became more serious there on but still refused to go to school. He would meet the monks and listen to their discussions on religious issues with rapt attention. Over a period of time, he went to Calcutta and as luck would have it he became a priest at a Kali Ma temple. He spent all his time worshipping Mother Kali. But he was disheartened that his Mother Kali was not responding to his prayers. He spent more and more time worshipping God and did not stop until he learnt the Truth.
