Sri Sri Ramana Maharshi

Ramana

Bhagwan Sri Ramana Maharshi was one of the greatest saints that India has witnessed. Through his silent demeneour, he converted, healed innumerable devotees. His simple life touched so many souls and transformed them for their lifetime. He not only showered his love on his devotees, but also liberated many souls which were in the form of a cow, deer, crow, squirrel and so on.
His Ashram is found in a town named Tiruvannamali in Tamil Nadu state of India which is also famous for the Arunachala temple. Year after year, thousands of devotees throng the Ramana Ashram from all parts of the world, to get away from the hustle-bustle of their city life, to find some peace.

Here are some recent photos and videos of the Ashram -http://golumolu.in/blogwp/2009/10/photos-videos-from-ramanasram-visit-september-2009/

HIS EARLY LIFE-
Sri Ramana Maharshi was born as Venkata Raman to a brahmin couple named Subrahmanya Aiyar and Alagammal in a small town called Tiruchuzhi in Tamil Nadu. As a young child, he was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. He was very athletic and always outplayed his friends in all sports.
One day when he was in the attic of his house, he experienced enlightenment. He experienced a death-like feeling. After which he realised that he is nothing but the soul, which is deathless and ever omnipresent. After this experience, he lost interest in the worldly life and devoted his time on meditating upon God. One day he gave up the worldly life and went to Tiruvannamalai, where he meditated for years in the caves of Skanda Ashram and Virupaksha.
