Pelicans are large water birds belonging to a family named Pelecanidae. They are characterized by their long beak and throat pouch which they use to catch their prey. Pelicans are frequently seen near inland or coastal waters where they feed primarily on fish. The eight living species of pelican can be divided into 2 groups, one with white plumage and the other with grey and brown plumage.

Pelicans are vastly distributed in presence. They can be found in coasts of northern South America, The Carribean, in South Asia, in coastal parts of Pakistan, India, Africa, Seychelles, South western Arabia, Indochina, Malay Peninsula and so on.
