Kingfisher

Kingfishers are small to medium sized colourful birds. They belong to a family named Alcedinidae. There are 90 different species of Kingfisher. All have large heads, long, sharp, pointed bills, short legs and stubby tails. Most of the are found in tropical region and few are found only in forests. While kingfishers are thought to live near rivers and eat fish, most of the kingfishers across the world live away from water and eat small invertebrates.

They nest in cavities, usually dug into the natural or artificial banks in the ground.They are found in Australasia, Europe, North America, Africa, Asia. They are famous for hunting and eating fish, but they also feed on frogs, worms, insects, spiders, centipedes, reptiles and even birds and mammals.
