Akshara Montessori School is located in Ulsoor, Bangalore. It is one of the best schools in Bangalore when it comes to Montessori method of teaching, school environment, experienced teachers etc
Akshara is run by a lady called Ms. Sophie Sivashankar. She has been teaching for over 40 years. Now thats a lot of experience and she is very well known in the montessori cirlces.

Ms.Sophie has maintained a beautiful environment in the school (also has her house in the same premises) with lot of trees, plants etc. She is very passionate about teaching, montessori methods and it shows in her work and also when you talk to her about her work. She is constantly trying to improvize the teaching methods and rigorously trains her teachers. She is also known for her discipline and timeliness.

If you call this environment as good, hold your breath. Sophie has a 5-acre campus near Yelahanka which is the Akshara Primary school. It is built as a model school for Montessori with ample space for children to explore and learn in a more practical way amidst nature. There are some rumors that whole of Akshara has shifted to Yelahanka. Thats not true, its just the primary school. The pre-primary classes continue to be held at Ulsoor.
We are writing this article to promote Akshara because our daughter studied at this school for 4 years and we are extremely happy about what she has learnt there and the person she is today. We would like to share this experience with others in the hope that they find it helpful and benefit from it.

Advantages, Disadvantages of Montessori method
i was learning in this school 4 years ago and it i used to luv it and i miss sophi maam a lot she was a piece of treasure next to me………i love this school
I really liked your blog on the school and i was looking for something truly genuine in education for my daughter. After meeting with Ms Sophie, both me and my husband felt this was the perfect place for her.
Thank you so much for this note, which convinced us that we have put her in the right place.
Cheers
Genny
how do the children who study in montessori method get used to the regular schools where there is a lot of rote learning, exams, lot of homework etc?
Also, the Akshara art of learning has higher classes run in montessori method – not sure how these children would cope up with the pressure of 11 and 12th standards and other competetive exams which are a norm in india.
where did you child move after spending 4 years at akshara? why did she move out of akshara?
hi…
If no exams are conducted atleast after 1st std. onwards.. how will they face 10th board exams… how will they other competitive exams in future… ?
The fact that we think too much about ‘what will happen’ and ‘ how will they face’, destroys half the confidence of a child…
I personally feel, that if you let the child grow in an environment like what Akshara has to offer, the child will not only be academically strong, but will have an over all personality which will help them face life and live it to the full.
I hated my school and teachers and till today have not gone back just for the fact that everything was so competitive and exam oriented. We being educated folks, should think of a better future for our kids and not think of how they will give their board exams a decade from now…
As i can see, i have a very bright and beautiful future for my child in the years to come.
God Bless Ms. Spohie and her team
Hello,
I second your opinion about Akshara. My nephew studied in ulsoor for 3 years and later we changed school as distance due to some reasons. He has been a part of another school till date for the academic year. However we have not been happy about the teaching method nor his progress. The method of teaching is so encouraging friendly for children in Akshara that it is incomparable. We have now decided to go back Akshara and thinking of continuing his further education until class X there, we paid a visit to Akshara at Sathnur village recently and had a tour of the premises and got to spend time in the class for a short wile. The idea of creating an environment to help children learn themselves from each other with proper support and guidance was something that impressed us a lot. In my opinion a class 1 child at Akshara is a lot sharper knowledgeable and interactive than a child in class 3 in another school.
Genny, you made a great point and I believe every parent should look at things from a different perceptive and you clearly articulate that in you comment.
Cheers,
Sunil

hi,..
i wanna admit my son to 8th std… i wanna know abt the 10th exam in akshara… do they have it or not … under which board it is coming….
Hey,
I agree that the akshara environment is very friendly for children’s learning. Children also are provided with lots of information. More importantly our child is “happy” to go to school. Here are a couple of things that the school can improve upon.
1. sports
2. communication with parents. ( we hardly get to know how our child is doing) Nor there is a channel in which we (parents) can express or ask for some modifications.
my both kids are studying in akshara.my kids are happy in this school.
hello !!! i just wanted to enquire if there is any job vacancy available in your montessori school ? and also would like to know the job requirments pleae !!! please do reply !! MY EMAIL ADRESS IS hsaritha20@yahoo.in ……. !!!!! thank you
hello everyone,
i recently moved to bangalore and having heard of akshara joined my 3yr old at ulsoor for the pre-primary…unfortunately he has been coming home and telling me some very disturbing things… one day he said ” teacher said if you dont work i will throw you out of the gate”..the nest day he said ” teacher said if you put your finger in the mouth i will put it in wheel”….”teacher told ravi (name changed of student) if you talk i will put cellotape on your mouth’!!!..these have been a little shocking and scary for me..
i have been looking for feedback on akshara and i came across this blog and these comments..although these are not completely current.. i request you all to tell me if akshara is indeed the same place as it was before…are any of your children still going to ulsoor..or do you know anyone…if you can write some current feedback..it will be really reassuring for me.
i am pretty sure my son cant make up these remarks..he is too small and this is his first school..so should i take these comments seriously? i agree that the interaction with parents can be improved a lot…
any suggestions from will be really welcome.
thank you
