Hebbal Lake was my next birding destination after having earlier visited Bannerghatta, Valley School & Madiwala Lake. This lake is situated in the northern part of Bangalore.

I was to go to the Aero Show 2013 (for viewing birds of a different kind!) and left early to reach the lake at about 07:30am. The entrance to the lake is via the Park. The Park entry is through entry free which is levied only from 9am or 10am not sure. Folks who photograph birds typically reach quite early, so dont worry about the entry fee part.


The park is quite dense with a lot of tree that are quite close to each other as compared to the valley school where there is a lot of open space and trees are scattered. In this park, you walk slowly under the trees and catch the birds resting on the branches. A few steps ahead is the lake where you can spot the Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers etc. It would be ideal if you have a 300mm or 400mm lens for the DSLR owners or atleast 15x zoom for the point & shot ones. You will get opportunities to capture images of birds in flight.
