Posted on April 5th, 2009 ajadmin 3 comments

Akshara Montessori School is located in Ulsoor, Bangalore. It is one of the best schools in Bangalore when it comes to Montessori method of teaching, school environment, experienced teachers etc

Akshara is run by a lady called Ms. Sophie Sivashankar. She has been teaching for over 40 years. Now thats a lot of experience and she is very well known in the montessori cirlces.

Ms.Sophie has maintained a beautiful environment in the school (also has her house in the same premises) with lot of trees, plants etc. She is very passionate about teaching, montessori methods and it shows in her work and also when you talk to her about her work. She is constantly trying to improvize the teaching methods and rigorously trains her teachers. She is also known for her discipline and timeliness.

If you call this environment as good, hold your breath. Sophie has a 5-acre campus near Yelahanka which is the Akshara Primary school. It is built as a model school for Montessori with ample space for children to explore and learn in a more practical way amidst nature. There are some rumors that whole of Akshara has shifted to Yelahanka. Thats not true, its just the primary school. The pre-primary classes continue to be held at Ulsoor.

We are writing this article to promote Akshara because our daughter studied at this school for 4 years and we are extremely happy about what she has learnt there and the person she is today. We would like to share this experience with others in the hope that they find it helpful and benefit from it.

  • The Lost Woman and a Ray of Hope

Posted on March 2nd, 2009 ajadmin No comments

I am amazed at the number of transformations a woman goes through at each stage of her life. The adaptability of a woman to situations is really commendable. Her life changes at so many different occassions. The most significant changes in her life happen after marriage and after childern are born.

After marriage she learns to adapt to the new life around her. The people , the place and the way of life everything is new.  There has to be some adjustment made by both ends. But to what extent one adjusts and how much one adjusts is purely on individual basis.

Another and most significant change in a woman’s life occurs when she has children. Her life goes completey haywire. The stakes are high when she tries to meet the demands of her family and also tries to get some peace and sanity in her own life.  She almost loses her sense of identity when she becomes somebody’s mother or somebody’s wife.  Her aspirations on what she dreamt of becoming as a child take a back seat. She’s too involved in shaping her children that she somewhere loses her own self.

For a woman who was working before the kids were born, its a big challenge to cope with such a situation. She knows that she has a tough job of nurturing her little children, (No other job is more tough,I am sure many mothers agree). But somewhere in the corner of her heart she yearns for her space, her freedom and her money.  There may be many people who may argue that if your husband earns enough money and gives you sufficient for your personal own use, then why do you have to really care for earning on your own? I disagree with them. The satisfaction of knowing that you have earned your own money and that you are financially independent is a great feeling to have. If due to situations, you are compelled to be at home but you still crave for your own space , your own time, then I suppose internet provides you great opportunities to explore.

I know a woman who was once a career person. Very hardworking and committed to her work. But marriage and then kids changed everything for her. Her priorities changed. Childern and her home became the top priority to such an extent that she would think or do things only for them. She became more like a machine, which is programmed to take care of her family. But, then this could not go on for long. In spite of the difficulties, she had to find a way out of her shell. She explored the opportunities on the internet. There are so many options for women like her now. She has started a website of her own (all with the help of her ever-supporting husband) and is trying to make some money from it. Even if the start is slow someday the fruits of her efforts will bear fruit. This is for all those people who are at home , feeling stuck up and helpless for depending on someone. Don’t feel helpless.  There is a ray of hope for all. Something will work out if you have the will and determination to do it.
