During the time of Krishna Deva Raya's rule in Vijayanagar Empire, Mohammedans were ruling Delhi.  The ruler was an emperor named Adil Shah. The two kingdoms were living in harmony for most part of the time. But on one occassion, there was war between them over supremacy but soon they decided to have peace. As part of the peace treaty, the Delhi ruler Adil Shah invited king Krishna Deva Raya and his learned team to Delhi.

Soon king Krishna Deva Raya and his team of dancers, poets, scholars reached Delhi. They were given a grand welcome at emperor Adil Shah's court. Emperor Adil Shah requested the king Krishna Deva Raya's scholars to recite some of the verses of the great Hindu epic, Mahabharata.  On listening to the Mahabharata, the Delhi ruler was impressed and asked the scholars to rewrite Mahabharata with him and his friends as the Pandavas. King Krishna Deva Raya and his team was surprised at the emperor's peculiar request. They some how took time off that day and returned back to their rooms wondering what they should do next. In their rooms, when they were discussing on their next move, no on had a clue how to tacke Adil Shah's request. Then, tenali Rama got up and said "I have a solution for this problem. So please don't worry. And go to bed peacefully." King Krishna deva Raya was not too convinced if tenali Rama could manage it as the emperor Adil Shah was hard to please. But finally the king and the team agreed to tenali Rama's suggestion as they had no other solution.

On the next morning, king Krishna Deva Raya and his team went to Adil Shah's court. The emperor reminded them of his request about the Mahabharata. At this point tenali Rama rose to his feet and said, "Revered Sir, our team of scholars are working on Mahabharata with you and your friends as the pandavas but they are stuck at one point. I can discuss this point only in private. So, if you can please meet me alone I can explain everything."

Emperor Adil Shah agreed to meet tenali Rama alone. Soon, they were seated in a room alone. Tenali Rama then explained that the scholars were rewriting Mahabharata with the emperor as Yudhistir and his friends as the rest of the pandavas. But the hitch was about the pandavas' wife Draupadi. Since, Draupadi was a wife for each of the pandavas, it would not be ok to rewrite Adil Shah , his friends as pandavas with a single wife. Adil Shah understood tenali Rama's point and immediately ordered for cancelling the rewrite of Mahabharata.

Tenali Rama returned to the eagerly waiting king Krishna Deva Raya and his team to announce the good news. They all were relieved that tenali Rama could handle the toughest of problems with such ease.
